How to engage your employees – lessons from Neil Diamond

Neil Diamond – “reaching out,” “touching hands”

A recent Towers Watson survey shows that only 37% of employees are giving their all to their organization, according to an article in TNLT.com: The Business of HR. (July 17, 2012), I Don’t Mean to Be Offensive, But Your Employee Engagement Stinks.

Organizations can take a lesson from Neil Diamond on how to engage employees. The author of the article, Teresa Hopke, recently attended a concert by the rock legend. After 40 years of playing this venue, he walked out on stage and proceeded to say, “We want to earn your loyalty tonight.” Neil Diamond knows that his job at every concert is to engage his fans.

– Understand what speaks to your employees
– Rethink job expectations
– Embed Work-Life into your culture
– Focus on teams vs. individuals
– Offer coaching
– Innovate time off
– Inspire your employees
