Whom Do You Trust?

An opinion piece in today’s New York Times by Charles M. Blow, “Whom Do You Trust,” discussed the latest Gallup poll, released on Monday.

64% of Americans rate the honesty and ethical standards of members of Congress as “low” or “very low,” tying the record “low”/”very low” rating Gallup has measured for any profession historically.

7% of Americans rate the honesty and ethical standards of members of Congress as high. On this measure, Congress now ties lobbyists.

The report also looked at other fields and found some positive trends and surprises:

The percentage of Americans who trust the country’s business interests — bankers, business executives, stockholders and accountants — has continued to rise.
